Annual Open Show 2008
Sunday 25th May 2008

Show Secretary, Chris Fifield writes:
Well as most of you know this was my first year of running this show after Sue Walker ran it so successfully for 15 years, and boy was I scared. It really was a baptism of fire. Many a time during the last 12 months I was to be heard screaming “That’s it; I’m not doing it ever again” the most recent being the Thursday before the show when it looked as if we had lost the replacement camping field with over 80 campers already on their way down to the West Country.  I’m not going to mention individual people as I would be bound to miss someone out so if you recognise yourself in one of the following categories then thank you.  Thanks to...
  • all the competitors without whom there would be no point in putting on a show. I hope you had a good day. Congratulations to those who got rosettes.
  • the judges and stewards some of whom got together on the Saturday night and swapped around when I got let down at the last minute.
  • the campers for not moaning about the rather long grass and facilities (well if you did I never heard you).
  • our club members who turned out on Friday to put rings and tents up so that those who wanted could attend Taunton Show on the Saturday. They then turned up again on Sunday to do various jobs all day and then help take everything down again.
  • the non-members, husbands etc, and youngsters who worked their socks off for us. I had some very complimentary comments about your work on the day.
  • Cullompton Rangers Football Club and the ladies in the kitchen for their hospitality and lovely food.
  • the weather – it dried up into a lovely day!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, thanks to Rita Goodfellow from Plymouth DTC who arrived Thursday night and parked caravans for me all day Friday, took my dog to Taunton and worked her on Saturday only to come back and carry on parking caravans up til 8pm. She was then down on the Show venue from 7am on Sunday parking cars. You are a star. Thanks a million.

Despite me swearing to the contrary I will be running next year’s show on Sunday 24th May 2009 at the same venue. Hopefully something better will have been sorted out for the camping by then.
